Kauai… Pt 2

After our wedding guests left Kauai, Court & I had 10 more sunshine filled days to look forward to. We stayed on the dry south side of the island during the first week & spent the rest of our honeymoon exploring what Kauai is famous for – The North Shore. Lush, green mountain peaks, waterfalls, jungle, white sand beaches & the Na’Pali coast envelope this part of the island.  It was absolutely breathtaking & if you get the chance to visit, I highly recommend spending time on both sides of the island, as they truly have their own vibe. Hanalei, is Kauai’s first real surf town & its like stepping back into the 1950s. Theres a handful of surf shops, fruit & souvenier stands, along with a few casual restaurants. This is the place to go if you want to ‘get away from it all’, & as soon as the sun goes down, this part of the island goes to sleep.
Towards the end of our trip, we were in need of some more ‘action’ so we packed up the Jeep & headed back to Poipu for a couple days.  Heres some of my tips if you go.
North Shore (Hanalei)
Eat: Blue Dolphin sushi & Papayas natural food market
See: Na’pali coast & Hideaway beach
Do:  Kalalau trail hike (I didn’t do this hike, but Court did & loved it)
Do not leave without: eating a fresh mango
South Shore (Poipu)
Eat: Roys & Red Salt  for indulgent, fine dining
See: Keoki’s Paradise patio
Do: nothing. Just relax.
Do not leave without: trying taro chips & Lapperts ice cream

North Shore highlights:

Post-rip tide swim. What a workout!
Sadly, this chapter of our lives came to an end & Court, me & the sedatives reluctantly boarded plane 1 of 3 for our long journey home. I was teary until the meds took effect & before I knew it, we were back on Alberta soil.   I promptly started planning our next Hawaiian vacation. Just kidding! (I waited until the next day)
Our friends, wedding & honeymoon were amazing & we couldn’t have asked for better memories.
Until our next trip… Aloha!
