The owner of our cottage rental recommended we stop by the ‘SPACE’ farmers market on Saturday morning, to get a feel for what the markets are like around Puna. Back in the 80s, a group of traveling jugglers developed a non-profit land trust, with a goal of creating a sustainable eco-village.
Good thing I ate a light breakfast before I went, because I would’ve bought everything. Here, you’ll find fresh island produce, baked goods, clothes, jewelry and so much more. A few stands were serving things like belgian waffles, sandwiches, soup, burritos, etc. I’m getting hungry just typing this.
I was immediately drawn to an organic smoothie stand, and sampled their most popular – the “ultimate green smoothie.” Coconut, pineapple, banana, kale, spirulina and ginger. Yum!
We made a few laps around the market before deciding what to buy.
We left with lettuce, kale, papaya, tomatoes, pineapple, carrots, eggs, tortillas and a coconut for the road.
I love our temporary neighborhood. Doesn’t Hawaii look good on me?

mmmm….jam….I’ll have to find the name of the little store that makes their own jam/jellies and ships them all over the place….I bought quite a few different flavors and loved them all
Love jam. I don’t know why I haven’t bought any yet. Oh wait, I know. It’s because my belly is already exploding with island fruit. Hahaha.
All your pictures are fantastic but that last one is particularly frame-worthy!
