I’m so excited for our next little adventure!

Thank you so much for all the love you extended on my Instagram post. For a brief moment, a small part of me wondered  if the Insta-community would still ‘like me’ if I wasn’t living IN the mountains anymore. The majority of my followers and brand collabs are passionate about outdoor lifestyle but I quickly reminded myself that even  *I* don’t  live that lifestyle everyday. And really, who gives a flying f? The majority of my photos are simply a highlight reel from my weekend adventures and make up a small fraction of my life.

Oh Canmore. You helped me find my heart again. I moved here a little over three years ago amidst a divorce, embarrassed and ashamed of my ‘failure’ but ready to create a new life for myself. I had no idea what even made me happy anymore, or what kind of life I wanted to create for myself. I just knew I needed to be here. Being still. Immersed in nature. Spending every free second exploring the outdoors. It was the first time I was truly ‘alone’ and it helped shaped me into the independent woman I am today. Three years later, I’ve found my ‘lifemate’ and we’re moving away from the Rockies soon. Taking that next big step together and planting some roots in our first home. 🏡I used to get really upset when I’d think about leaving Canmore, but I’ve realized ‘home’ is family and who you choose to spend your life with. 💙 Even though my living situation is changing shortly, I’ll still be sharing my outdoor adventures with some city livin’ mixed in. Thank you for letting me share tidbits of my (outdoor)life with you! 🙏🏼😊oh! And I’m still heading to work everyday in the mountains so I’ll get the best of both worlds 🙌🏼 #mylife #secondchances #neverstopexploring #canmore #alberta

SO YEAH.

To bring you into the loop, Nick and I have decided to plant some roots in Calgary for the time being. Once we made the commitment, everything happened very quickly and without really trying. *The* type of job I’d been day-dreaming about and trying to land literally fell into my lap. I asked God to give me what I wanted in the easiest way possible; the path of least resistance.  (I know some may snicker or eye roll at that statement, but HAVE YOU TRIED IT? All you have to do is ask)  I found a condo online that we  immediately knew was going to be our home,  before we viewed it in person. The entire situation reminds me of how “easy” it was to move to Canmore – despite all the odds stacked against me and ‘worst case scenario’ warnings from everyone that I’d struggle to find a place to live, be lonely, miserable and full of regrets, I’d get bored of the mountains, etc. I knew it’s where I was supposed to be and everything worked out. It always does.

In life, you get what you think about. It’s fun to have an anything can happen attitude. With that in mind, what would you like to create? You get to decide. Use your imagination to fill in the blanks. Commit to your vision, think about it often, FEEL IT. Marinate in the sensation of how awesome it’s going to be when you’re living it.

Who woulda thought that some random shy, quiet and super introverted dude who casually asked me to go for a run would end up becoming the love of my life? 😀 Over the past several months, as Nick and I have talked about our future life together, I created a ‘for our home’ Pinterest vision board. (To go with my Life Vision board, of course) I cannot wait to start furnishing and decorating our home! Here’s what I have in mind.

As you can see, the look and vibe I’m going for is minimalist yet functional, white, grey, gold and planty. We’re turning our den into a mini-gym and I somehow managed to convince Nick we should keep the tv OUT of the living room. I prefer to design a space where the main focal point is a window or gathering place, rather than a gaudy tv. Plus, I prefer watching shows snuggled up in bed, so it’s going in the bedroom!

Aside from mentally decorating our space, we’ve had plenty of important conversations. Like this.

Well, thanks for listening to me today friends. Let’s chat later this week!

Over to you:

What style does your home reflect?

Do you like Instagram stories? Anyone interesting I should follow?

  1. Congrats to you both on this exciting new adventure! I love when things fall into place like that… I’ve definitely learned over the past few years that if there is a lot of resistance to something maybe it’s just not meant to be or work out at this time. And yes I love Instagram stories! They’ve become strangely addictive to make and watch.

    • Yes!! A lot of times we create resistance by over-thinking and over-complicating things! Life flows so much more freely and easily when we seek to take the path of least resistance!

  2. Haha I’m so glad you can admit and know that your smoothies look like something other than smoothies 😉 Congratulations on the new place! So exciting.

    • Oh yes – but I find the most awful looking smoothies end up tasting the best!

  3. Exciting news Jo!! Welcome to Calgary, we can’t wait to welcome you with open arms! Looking forward to following alongside your city adventures! Yay 😀

  4. Congratulations Jo! That’s so exciting! I’m so happy you found the perfect person to share your life with. Plus, Calgary is still super close to the mountains so I’m sure you’ll bre out there all the time. 🙂

    • Yes! I’m still working there so it will be nice to drive to the mountains everyday. Best of both worlds!

  5. Congrats on the job and the move, Jo!! I love that you’re not bound to your image on Instagram. And it really is quite a treat when God answers our prayers in the way we favor.
Good luck and can’t wait to follow the next adventure!

  6. Congrats, my friend!! I truly believe everything happens for a reason…even if we can’t see that reason in the immediate now. I too prefer a main area without a tv and we have ours in the bedroom too (which I always thought I would hate, but I actually love!). Did you get a new job, too?

  7. I’m so happy for you!! Nick and you are a great match. I think what you have learned is really important, a place isn’t your home, but people can make your home. Also I’m excited you will be closer when I come back!!

  8. Congrats, such an exciting step in your life! I’m looking forward to seeing how you decorate your love nest. 🙂
